"... to see the world in a grain of sand, and heaven in a wild flower." - William Blake

"Over and over, the path to truth is found in the crevasses of the floor, the cracks in the wall, in the disturbed dust." - Stephen Kendrick

Join us on Saturday, March 31 at 4:00 PM to meet Alan and explore the depths of his mind. View beautiful artwork that is sure to inspire you, and dive into the deep ocean of creativity.

  About the Artist

As a photographer, I am interested in paying attention, in moving from the general to the particular, from the large to the small, in closely attending to what is before me as I look to capture the moment when light and subject meet in time and space, and shape, and when color, tone, and texture merge in way that is distinctive. The best photographs invite the viewer to share the experience of observing with me as I focus in on the “crack in the wall “or the “crevasse of the floor.” But my artistic intent is more than that. The photograph, if successful, encourages the viewer who shares the moment with me, to pause and take the time to extract some meaning from the image that goes beyond the literal. My desire is not to insist that the viewer find the same meaning that I may have found but rather to challenge him/her to engage in the work and extract their own meanings.

I currently have a studio at the Oxford Community Arts Center where I do my own processing of the photographs that I have taken in a variety of locations. In the past five years I have had four solo shows at the OCAC, one solo show at Mount St. Joseph University, and had multiple photographs selected for juried shows.

About the Artist

Phillip Erbaugh earned his B.S. from Manchester College in Art Education in 1976. He received a B.F.A. from Wright State University in Painting and Drawing in 1981 and has studied with Pam Newell, Marry Ann Davis, Ray Hassard, Wyatt LaGrand, and Joshuan Been.

Mr. Erbaugh has won numerous awards in local, regional, and national shows. Most notably: Best of Show at the Preble County Fine Arts Center "Sacred Spaces" art competition; he received the Anne Belle Henthorne Merit award at the Richmond Art Museum, and was won awards at the Preble County Fair Scene Art Competition, Rosewood Art Gallery, and the Cincinnati Art Clubs National Show, along with a variety of other awards.

Phillip has had solo exhibitions at multiple locations including the Pump House Gallery, Preble County Fine Arts Center, The Depot, Gateway Arts Council, Manchester University, and Wittenburg University.

Mr. Erbaugh has drawn all of his life. When he was a pre-teen he liked doing paint-by-number paintings, which gave his father the idea to suggest that he do an original painting. This is how his interest in art started, pushing him to start taking painting lessons in junior high school, and all of the art classes he could during his time in high school in Brookville, Ohio.
